We have structured registration fees to be affordable, especially if you register early. The Bioregional Activists Gathering is a benefit for Threatened & Endangered Little Applegate Valley, the Community Conservation and local activist program of Birch Creek Arts & Ecology Center. Proceeds after expenses will be used to prepare for the 11th Continental Bioregional Congress, which be hosted at Birch Creek in August, 2013.

The Bioregional Activists Gathering will be a success if everyone who attends contributes at least the minimum registration fee. See below for details on a limited number of full and partial work-trade positions available. We are limiting Bioregional Activists Gathering attendance to 150 participants to keep it sweet and light on the land.

You become officially registered for the Bioregional Activists Gathering when we receive your payment.

We will send you a receipt, directions to Birch Creek, and detailed info about what to expect, what to bring.

Half of each registration fee is a non-refundable deposit, which we retain if you cancel before August 1st.
For cancellations after August 1st, we will retain the entire amount unless we can fill your place.

For your convenience, our PayPal account can accept your registration fee payment. However, you can help us “save a stamp/PayPal fee” by sending in your registration payment by check to:

Birch Creek Arts & Ecology Center

P.O. Box 1330 Jacksonville, OR 97530

(we  allow 12 days before discarding registration forms for payments via “snail mail”)

WORK TRADE POSITIONS

A limited number of work trade positions will be available. We will have a few full and several partial work trade positions during the event in the kitchen, child care, security, and logistical realms. We will also have some full work trade positions for burly folks who can work hard after the event to breakdown the gathering village and pack it all into a semi trailer.

To be considered for a work trade position, please complete the registration process and submit a $50 deposit by sending in a check or money order made out to BCAEC. Introduce yourself to us by snail mail or email trillium@deepwild.org, describing for us your qualifications for the positions in which you are interested.

Partial work trade positions receive a 50% discount on the registration fee. Full work trades will receive $25 of their deposit back when their work is completed; with $25 retained as a contribution toward meal costs.

arrival

Plan to arrive at Birch Creek Arts & Ecology Center on Friday afternoon so you have plenty of time to park, camp, and get oriented before dinner and opening circle. Allow approximately one hour to drive from Ashland, Medford, and a bit longer from Gold Hill or Grants Pass. We are 22 miles from the closest gas station; so gas up in town!

MEALS

All meals are vegetarian with vegan and gluten-free options. Some other special dietary needs can be accommodated. Folks with totally raw food diets will need to supplement our meals with their own raw fruit and vegetables. No meat is permitted anywhere on the BCAEC Land.

TRANSPORTATION

If you plan to drive here, please carpool! If you are looking for a ride or riders, please email <trillium@deepwild.org> describing which and where from, and we'll work to make connections. If you plan on flying into Medford Airport, let us know so we can arrange for your pick-up. If you plan to come by train, please realize that the closest train station is in Klamath Falls, about a 2.5 hour drive to the east side of the Cascade Range. You will need to sign up for Amtrak's shuttle van to Medford where we can arrange to pick you up.

PARKING

Most parking will be along the unpaved county road. Limited parking for RVs will be available in the parking lot, about 150 yards downhill from the Gathering Village. Multiple occupancy vehicles and those with special needs will have priority for parking lot spaces. Maximum RV length 22 ft.

CAMPING

Camping will occur in several areas.

·       In the Gathering Village: limited campsites in dry pond bottoms and under trees adjacent to the main village meadow; prioritized for families with small children, and folks who would find it difficult to walk into the village from more distant camping.

·       Meadow and dry pond bottom camping in the meadow immediately above the Gathering Village (see photo on web page).

·       School Hostel: limited space for special needs folks who need a bed or sofa; located about 1/8 mile up-canyon from the Gathering Village. Hostel charge is $50 for the vent.

·       Birch Creek Canyon: beginning with the remote parking meadow and under trees around the School Hostel, campsites extend another 1/8 mile under trees and in grassy openings up the canyon.

·       Remote hike-in camping along the banks of the Little Applegate River. These sites range from at least ¼ mile to over ½ mile down from the Gathering Village; the walk back up from the river is a bit steep in places. The river campsites on the near bank of the footbridge are accessible walking with a garden cart. Campsites across the bridge are further up-river, beyond the reach of garden carts, and require packing in your gear.

Campsites will be limited to those folks who are not sleeping in their vehicles.

WILDERNESS SETTING RELEASE

Each adult participant will read and sign a release, where they indicate their understanding that the Bioregional Activists Gathering is held in a wilderness setting presenting many naturals hazards, and that they are responsible for the safety of themselves and of any minors in their charge. Natural hazards include cliffs, ravines, ponds, small river, uneven ground, forests, poison oak, yellow jackets, wasps, rattlesnakes, and wildlife from common squirrels and skunks to unlikely cougars and bears.

Read our detailed release form here.

CHILDCARE & TEEN PARTICIPATION

Childcare will be available in the village playground area for kids of all ages during regular periods of workshops and sessions. Young children not yet potty trained must be accompanied by a parent. Children and Teens attending must be with their parents or participating in gathering activities at all times. Unsupervised wandering around Birch Creek Arts & Ecology Center lands is not permitted during the Bioregional Activists Gathering.

COMMUNICATIONS

Birch Creek Arts & Ecology Center’s wild campus is beyond cell phone range. A land-line will be available for short calls with a phone card. A satellite wifi will provide phone service for “smart?” phones and limited internet use (no downloads or uploads).

PLEASE DO NOT BRING

Pets including all dogs, meat, firearms, toxics, illegal drugs, controlled substances not prescribed by a physician and communicable diseases.
